All Ages! This will be the perfect Summer Writing Class for your whole family!
There will be 8 online class meetings this summer and each LIVE session will have a new writing theme! You will love writing this way!
Each week, students will be able to participate in brainstorming for writing ideas that they can continue even after class (no homework is required but writing will be encouraged), group writing activities, story starter games and discussions just as a taste of the ideas we will use to get the students excited about writing this Summer.
Here is an example of how the Summer Writing Club might go (each session will be different):
The students are asked to do a Quick Write on a theme for the Club Meeting. Ideas are shared and a discussion (with light-hearted Summer fun) follows. A Writing/Language Art Skill is taught for the day in a mini-lesson fashion. The students will then work on a Group Write where they play "Pick One" to pick a setting, a list of characters, and a happening from a Grab Bag of Writing Props and begin to write a creative story or fake news event, etc. together. There is a chance to "Publish" their short story or ode of poetry by reading it aloud or having the teacher read it aloud before class ends. Some of the students will want to continue writing even after the class has ended. All students will benefit from the class time itself with skills that have been reviewed or introduced, application exercises that allowed them to use their writing skills, and with peer writing that makes writing even more enjoyable and allows the student to see the writing styles of others.
The class will be great for those who love to write, because they will be inspired by ideas shared and will love writing with others.
The class will be great for those who need to work on or keep up their writing skills during the Summer, because they will be writing at least 8 weeks out of the Summer with the class and will be learning all about the Writing Method and Language Arts skills with the goal to make everyone in the class better writers by the end of Summer.
Tuesdays at 10 am CST beginning June 12th.
Classes will be recorded for viewing later in the week if you are not able to attend the LIVE session. The teacher will teach the class in a way that invites the student who is watching by recording later to participate at home.
